Meet the Plants

These are the “lāʻau kaʻa waʻa” or "canoe plants" that make up our Hawaii inspired skincare line.

How the first Voyagers used Kō

Kō was valued for its sucrose-rich fibrous pulp which is used to provide immediate energy, sweeten food and drinks, and sweeten medicine.

Why we use Kō

Using sugar in our soaps helps to create a full bubbly lather.

In our scrubs it becomes a natural exfoliant and humectant which draws moisture into the skin.

Kō also provides antioxidants, magnesium, calcium, and iron.

How the first Voyagers used Niu

Hawaiians use the coconut for everything from housing, thatching, hats, baskets, furniture, mats, cordage, clothing, charcoal, brooms, fans, ornaments, musical instruments, shampoo, containers, implements and oil for fuel, light, ointments, and even soap.

Why we use Niu

Coconut Oil provides hydration to the skin, contributes vitamin E and polyphenols, and protects the skin barrier. In our soaps it acts as the main cleansing agent.

How the First Voyagers used Kukui Nut

The First Hawaiians used Kukui for its light, the oil of the white kernels being extracted for its use in stone lamps. The Sap would be used to treat cold sores and mild sunburn.

Why we use Kukui Nut

In our soaps Kukui Nut oil
adds rich essential fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins A, C, and E. It’s also one of the main skin conditioning oils in our formula. In our scrubs it acts as an emollient and occlusive to protect your skin barrier.

How the First Voyagers used Noni

In Hawai'i, in addition to using Noni to heal boils, wounds, and fractures, the fruit is used to prepare a tonic for ailments such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and loss of appetite.

Why we use Noni

Noni pairs well with humectants to draw moisture to the skin. It also provides vitamins A and C, flavonoids, and beta-carotene to nourish the skin.

How the First Voyagers used `Ōlena

Hawaiians would use `Ōlena to help ease earaches and respiratory ailments.

Topically it would be used to treat acne and as an anti-bacterial agent.

Why we use `Ōlena

We use `Ōlena for its strong antioxidant benefits, as well as anti-inflammatory and skin barrier enhancing properties.
